California's unpredictable primary for governor
Three candidates, two spots. That's seemingly the situation in California, where Republican Steve Hilton holds a narrow lead in Decision Desk HQ's polling average for California's top-two primary for governor. But Democrats Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer are not far behind, and the two of them could even theoretically jump Hilton to lock out Republicans from the general election.

Who will Los Angeles pick to be its next mayor?
In the race for Los Angeles mayor, Decision Desk HQ's polling average finds a very close contest involving incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, and former reality TV personality Spencer Pratt. No candidate will win a majority, so the top-two vote-getters will advance to the November election. While the race is technically nonpartisan, Bass and Raman are Democrats while Pratt is a Republican.
South Carolina unlikely to redistrict in 2026
South Carolina's state Senate voted against congressional redistricting, which means the state will likely continue using the same map in 2026. The move preserves Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn's solidly blue 6th District. Although Republicans control the legislature, some GOP senators opposed a redraw because early voting had already begun for the state's June primary.
